Tek9 is a popular Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare news website and community, founded by Steven Leunens and owned by Heaven Media Group.

History

The website was founded in 2004[1] by Steven "dfb" Leunens under the domain tek-9.org. Originally an e-sports organisation, it was home to several successful gaming teams[2], including, but not limited to, the Call of Duty franchise, Counter Strike and Quake 4. One of its most notable succesess came in 2007 when their Call of Duty 2 team won World Series of Video Games Dallas[3].

Tek9 also hosted their own professional LAN events in Antwerp, Belgium consequently receiving significant media attention in 2007, featuring on Belgium TV channel Eén show Koppen XL[4].

In 2008 Tek9 realigned its goals from supporting teams to professional e-sports coverage[5], focusing primarily on the Call of Duty community. In 2009, United Kingdom based publishing group Heaven Media acquired Tek9 to add to its list of e-sports websites that include Cadred and Crossfire[6]

The Site

The Tek9 website primarily provides in depth Call of Duty 4 Promod community news reports,articles, a discussion forum and cinema for frag movies. Writers that are part of the Tek9 crew also attend e-sports events to provide in depth coverage including match reports and interviews.

The active discussion forum covers multiple games including Call of Duty 4, Starcraft II, League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth. Community members actively engage in varied discussion topics, ranging from gaming, hardware, to off topic.

The website has now grown into the largest Call of Duty 4 community with over 78,000 members and 80,000 forum threads.[7]
