As you could possibly tell by the nature of my username, I am, indeed, an Asian dude. My interests generally revolve around the subject of computers, that being how I enjoy constructing computers themselves (albeit how stress-inducing it can be) and how I like to program (at a very basic level). I'm also a bit addicted to video games. Some of my favorites include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Hollow Knight, Little Big Planet 2, and the Soulsborne series.

My main experience with Wikipedia is through using it to search up general information on subjects I want a basic grasp on. I also use it at times to gather sources for school projects and assignments. The only experience I have in editing on Wikipedia comes from writing this biography and from a class assignment in my 8th grade English class, in which were were to create a Wikipedia page on the book The Good Rain by Timothy Egan. Unfortunately, there were evident complication with the article as it was either deleted, or our teacher failed to upload the class's work.

Article Evaluation

edit

Being a player of Trove since early 2016, I consider myself to be, at the least, mildly knowledgeable on the history and development of the game throughout the it's various updates. Though the core gameplay has changed little since it's open beta, the multitude of additions has made Trove significantly different from its original 2015 release. In search for a general history and deeper understanding of the game, I visited the Trove page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: its severe lack of citations, the unreliable nature of the provided sources, and the outdated content of the page.

Citations

edit

A multitude of areas throughout the page are absent of citations when listing information. Of the six total sections, three are devoid of any use of citations. This is a large detriment to the validity of the page as seen with the section detailing the general gameplay of Trove. With the absence of any sort of reference, all the information regarding the gameplay gives the notion of being pulled from personal experience rather than a neutral source.

Source Unreliability

edit

One other major detriment to the validity of the information presented on the page would be the overwhelming abundance of considerably unreliable sources. Of the twelve resources listed, seven come from the website Trionworlds.com, the official publisher website of Trove. Rather than gathering information from independent sources, the abundance of sources from the official website are bound to disrupt the neutrality of the page. One reference listed even cites a Steam discussion page, which is an online forum where players can discuss various topics, many of which are opinion-based.

Outdated Content

edit

Much of the content presented on the Trove page are based upon information that is outdated when compared to the current version of Trove. This is evident in the page's description of the portal system. It is described that in the central hub world, players can use various portals to be transported to different areas of the game. In the current version of Trove, this system of portals has been replaced by an overworld system which can be accessed though a shortcut on the keyboard or through the Trovian Atlas.

Summary

edit

With the multitude of issues present throughout the page, Trove achieves the ranking of "Start." Through the page has some general information of the game, much of the information either lacks citation, or comes from an unreliable source, that being from the official publisher or from an online forum. These aspects, along with the outdated description of gameplay mechanics, make the page sound incomplete. An increase in raking would require a complete rework of the citations and an update to the page content.
