H100 series
editRockbox
editThe H100 series is one of the devices supported by the Rockbox free and open source firmware project. Rockbox offers several features not available in the official firmware such as:
- More supported playback formats
- Gapless playback
- Last.fm scrobbling to log, which then is uploaded to Last.fm by the user via a perl computer program or web based script Rockbox .scrobbler-timeless.log to Last.fm Upload. Even though the H100 series has no internal clock, these two methods will fake the play times of the tracks, so is valid for the Last.fm/Audioscrobbler service
- Games
- Image viewers.
Iriver has been known to refuse to service players under warranty that show evidence that Rockbox has been installed on them.[1]
H300 series
editThe collaboratively developed free software Rockbox project has developed alternative firmware which can be used on the iRiver H300 series (among other hardware). Among other features, the current version of Rockbox enables:
- Additional codecs: AAC, FLAC, Musepack, WavPack, Shorten, Apple Lossless, (WAV/AIFF)
- Recording features: manual and automatic adjustment of loudness, saving as .mp3 and .wav
- Complete customisation of the graphical interface of the H300
- Display of album covers whilst playing tracks (Only with unsupported patch)
- Gapless playback.
- Games (Doom and Pac-Man, among others)
- Calendar
- Extended playback time
- Last.fm scrobbling to log, which then is uploaded to Last.fm by the user via a computer program or web based script.
- MPEG video support with included mpegplayer plugin (albeit slightly buggy)
- Bootloader USB Mode (useful for system diagnosis/updates)
- Extensible in every way (requires knowledge of C)
