Tree incident's edit
Richard has been praised by his former employers, Southeastern. The driver, Richard Evans, was in charge of the 6.09am service from Tunbridge Wells to Charring Cross in the morning following a stormy night and high winds across Kent but as the train pulled out of the station and headed up the line towards Frant, it neared the obstruction, Realising this would hold up commuters heading into London, the driver jumped out of their cab and heaved the tree from the track and on to the side before continuing the journey. The actions of Richard Evans prevented serious delays and meant the train was only nine minutes late as it ended its journey in central London. Southeastern “ which runs the service - had already tweeted about the obstruction on its Twitter account stating: SERVICE UPDATE: A tree on the line between Tunbridge Wells & Frant may cause delays to trains through the area, more"[9] but once the driver contacted the control centre to let them know what they had done this was replaced by the following tweet: "SERVICE UPDATE #TunbridgeWells The driver of the 06:09 Tunbridge Wells-Charing Cross train has removed the tree & the train's on the move."[10] Now Richard Dean, Train Services Director at Southeastern, has praised the Richard. He said: like to say well done to our train driver. The quick-thinking actions of our employee meant that all the people on this busy commuter train did not suffer severe delays after a night of high winds blew this tree onto the tracks. meanwhile our employees are committed to getting our passengers to where they need to be every day, the actions of this driver are really impressive.[11]
He was driving British Rail Class 375 601 on a service from Hastings railway station to Charing Cross railway station when he hit a tree at around 50 mph (80kmph) on leaving Mountfield Tunnel on the 1066 line.
The damage to the unit was with cab window smashed, end gangway bent, coupler damaged.
