Song

"Aphrodite" is a song by Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue that serves as the title track from her eleventh studio album of the same name. It is written by Andy Chatterley and Nerina Pallot, and produced by Chatterly and Pallot again. The song has received generally favourable reception in album reviews, mostly praised for being a single. It had been also featured on her holiday EP A Kylie Christmas.[1] Minogue recorded her vocals in July 2009 at Pallot and Chatterley's 'Electric Love' studios in North London, where she also recorded "Better Than Today" from her album also written and produced by Pallot and Chatterley.

Background edit

"Aphrodite" was written and produced by Nerina Pallot and Andy Chatterley.[2] The song was originally included on Pallot's project Buckminster Fuller EP in February 2009.[3] After hearing Pallot's work, Minogue's A&R contacted her manager. Pallot stated when Minogue personally called her later, she "really didn't believe it was her", continuing, "when [Minogue] came to the studio in a nasty part of London I thought: 'OK, she really does want to do this'."[4] Pallot and Chatterley were the first two writers and producers to work with Minogue when recording sessions for Aphrodite began in April 2009. "Better Than Today" was one of the more prominent results of the collaboration.[5] Pallot commented on working with Minogue, calling her "accommodating and lovely and approachable and normal [sic]".[4] Subsequent sessions Minogue had with the duo were not as successful. After Parlophone president Miles Leonard made Stuart Price the executive producer over the album in December 2009, Price and Jake Shears (a friend and former collaboration partner of Price and Minogue) began to retool the album. After being retooled by Price, "Better Than Today" was left as one of the only remaining collaborations Minogue had with Pallot and Chatterly, besides the album's title track.[5]

Reception edit

Tim Sendra from Allmusic gave it a positive review, as he had highlighted the song as a track pick, saying that it is "one of Kylie's best, in fact".[6] Christel Loar from Popmatters had made it a highlight, as it was reviewed she said that its a "rare representation of perfect production that is just pleasure, pure and simple".[7]
