L'Enfant noir is a franco-guinean film by Laurent Chevallier released in 1995[1],[2] ; it was inspired by the librement roman homonyme, L'Enfant noir, by Camara Laye, published in 1953[3].
Synopsis edit
The film retraces the l'itinéraire initiatique of a young boy who discovers the capital. A boy who had never left his village in the wilderness. He travels to the city to pursue his education. He is the hope of his family. His father wants him to become famous like his uncle because he himself couldn't go to as good of a school, and wants his son to have had the chance he couldn't have.
Directing edit
Laurent Chevallier, the documentary-maker, relied upon his experience as a documentarian and his knowledge of Niger to shoot this film in a very realistic fashion. Certain actors were really in the child's family.
