Adoptees are said to commit suicide more than the average citizen [1]. In addition international adoptees are said to commit suicide more than domestic adoptees. [2] [3] However as one study pointed out many of these studies are not throughly conducted, such as background of the child before adoption, genetic traits and factors, as well as looking a the culture of adoption itself. [1]

In addition many of these studies blame the adoptee, birth parents, adoptive parents [4] [5], or adoption [3] ignoring the social issues and aspects often citing genetics as the leading factor to suicide. [6]

These are not congruent to those reported by the suicidal teens themselves who often report identity issues [7] [8] [9] and this leads them to think of suicide. However, often when addressed the non-adoptee will talk about how fortunate the adoptee is, circumventing the identity issues and social pressures the adoptee talked about [9].
