St. George's School is a private, international school in Bogotá, Colombia founded in 1958 on British principles. Students start at age four in prekinder and study for fourteen years, finishing high school at the end of eleventh grade, which is equivalent to twelfth grade internationally. St. George’s School has received several national honours[1] and has been consistently ranked[2] among the top ten schools in Colombia as indicated by results on the National ICFES SABER Examinations (Colombian state examinations) [3][4]. The mission of the school is to: “accompany personal, spiritual and healthy growth throughout life based on the development of a strong work ethic, self-discipline, solidarity, respect for others and for all forms of life on our little planet.”[5]

edit

There are ~1,360 students enrolled in the school: ~520 in high school, ~440 in elementary school and ~410 in preschool.

a. Cambridge International

In 2012, St. George’s School became certified as a Cambridge International School, implementing the Cambridge Assessment International Education programme and official examinations that make up the Cambridge Pathway (ages 5-18).

In Primary (grades Transition-5) and Lower Secondary (grades 6-8) this includes English, mathematics, science and Cambridge Global Perspectives – a cross-curricular subject. In Upper Secondary (grades 9-11) this includes the Cambridge IGCSE in several subject areas. From preschool through elementary and high school all grade levels have language classes (Spanish and English) as well as classes taught in both languages. French language classes start in grade 3 and continue for all students until grade 11.

English language exams are included in the Cambridge International programme. Additionally students take the Cambridge IELTS English as a second language exam in grade 11 as part of university preparation. Students also take the French DELF exams throughout high school.

b. House System

In 1986, the House system was introduced to the institution to promote artistic and cultural activities under the names of four Colombian tribes: Muisca, Quimbaya, Sinú and Tairona. The houses are divided into categories: Lower Junior (grade 1), Junior (grades 2-3), Upper Junior (grades 4-5), Middle (grades 6, 7, 8) and Senior (grades 9, 10, 11). House competitions take place each year in six areas: dance, music, poetry, theater and sport. Each house has a captain and a vice captain per category, except for the Lower Junior category.

c. Sports

St. George’s School is an active member of UNCOLI (The Colombian Association of International Schools) and ASOCOLDEP (The Colombian Association of Private Education). The school has teams in soccer, volleyball, basketball, chess and recently track and field.
