DJ Mea Mea Fisher is an American electronic music dj/vocalist born on April 10 in Kansas City, MO. She established herself in the entertainment scene at a young age as a choreographer via go-go dancing and in fashion as co-founder of ultra-hip Kansas City clothing boutique, Taste. Upon discovering her talent on the turntables, she sold her half of the business and moved to Chicago in 1997 to refine her dj skills. Making her way as a club kid at legendary Chicago nightspots like Crowbar, Shelter, and Karma, she eventually rose to fame as a sassy house music dj who knew how to work a crowd as well as the decks. Hard work, radical sex appeal, and a dynamic stage presence paid off, and in 2001 she joined the Funky Techno Tribe Tour as the only female dj, playing alongside greats of the industry, including Donald Glaude, DJ Sneak, and DJ Dan. When the Underground Construction label discovered her powerful singing voice, they sent Mea to the studio with producer Spero Pagos, which launched in a career of singing and deejaying, combined. Her first song, "Better Day," was featured in the soundtrack for the film Intervention and spawned popular remixes by DJ Irene and Bam Bam. Many songs were recorded her by the two that often were released on sistering labels such as Afterhours and Dialogue. With her collaboration with legendary house singer, Ron Carroll, she delivered songs to the Soundmen On Wax label. Mea eventually met with famed producer and artist, Nynex, from Los Angeles, where they would record debut singles. Their first single, “Simplest of Things” released in 2002 led to another tour in itself. With the addition of live vocals to her dj set, DJ Mea became an international stage sensation, touring the world as a solo performer. Her sound evolved with the times and her move to Hollywood, where she discovered a darker version of herself and created her band MeAndMyMachine, eventually attracting the attention of Lords of Acid manager, Chris Kniker, who invited her to join their upcoming 2011 tour as lead singer for the sexed-up electro-rock band. Her collaboration with Lords of Acid both on tour and on their upcoming studio album was an opportunity to explore new territory in the feminist realms. Even after 10 years in Hollywood, Mea maintains her Midwestern charm and always brings the famous Chicago funk energy that earned her fame as dj, singer, and dancer. She now lives in Venice Beach with her Abyssinian cat, Ramses, where she surfs in summer and heads to the mountains to snowboard in winter.
