Draft:Bette Nash
editBette Nash (née Burke) (1935/1936 - May 17, 2024) was an American flight attendant who held the Guinness World Record for longest-serving and oldest flight attendant from 2022 until her death.[1]
Career
editNash began her career on November 4, 1957 with Eastern Airlines.[1] She primarily worked a route between Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston. She also attended regular flight attendant training as per FAA regulations.[2] For her 50th anniversary as a flight attendant, US Airways honored her with a party at Reagan National Airport, including a water salute, typically only reserved for retiring captains or officers.[3]
Personal life
editShe attended Sacred Heart College (now Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina) and worked as a legal secretary before becoming a stewardess.[4] She was also a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Manassas, Virginia, and lived in Arlington with her son Christian, who has Down syndrome.[5]
On May 17, 2024, Nash died in hospice care after a breast cancer diagnosis, although she never officially retired from American Airlines.[2]
