Adult Kart Fleet: 26 OTL Storm Karts & 1 OTL Handicap Kart

Total Adult Fleet: 27

Junior Kart Fleet: 11 OTL Junior Karts

Total Junor Fleet: 11

Adult Kart Info The OTL Storm kart reaches a top speed of 45 MPH. The max speed reached on the current track is about 40 MPH. The most unique kart, number 27, utilizes hand-controlled pedals, so anyone paralyzed or amputated from the waist down can race. The Handicap Kart kart uses an unconventional steering wheel, using the Junior kart steering wheel with the brake paddle on the right and gas paddle on the left. There are Velcro leg fittings for customers to rest their legs on while driving. The regular gas and brake pedals are not functional.

OTL Storm Adult Kart

The regular adult karts most customers drive is numbered 1-26. They all use 4 Optima yellow tops with foot-controlled pedals, brake on the left, gas on the right. The motor is a 48v Forklift motor with an 11-tooth pinion gear connected to a chain that leads to a 48-tooth spur gear. Another option to carry the power from the motor to the differential is by a belt to reduce sound. The spur gear is connected to a limited-slip differential. This means that the kart uses 2 brake discs on the rear axles. The brakes are hydraulic powered with a microswitch to activate a brake light on the back of the seat when the switch loses contact. The tires currently used are Sakamoto 11x4.50-5 slicks for the front and raptor 11x6.00-5 or Sakamoto 11x6.00-5. The PSI ran as of 8/4/22 is 21PSI. The kart weighs about 610lbs with batteries, without driver.

Junior Kart Info

The OTL junior karts are a slower kart built for children that reaches a top speed of 25 MPH on track. The Kart uses 2 Optima yellow tops and a 24v motor designed by OTL. It uses an 11-tooth pinion gear connected to a 48-tooth spur gear by chain. Another option to carry the power from the motor to the differential is by a belt to reduce sound. The 48 tooth gear is connected to a long solid axle with 1 brake disc. This brake caliper is similar to a bicycle brake caliper by running a cable through it and when the left brake pedal is pressed, it pinches 2 carbon brake pads together to stop the kart. If set up correctly, the junior kart brakes can stop the kart just as fast as an adult kart. The junior karts run Sakamoto 11x4.50-5 slicks for the front and raptor 11x6.00-5 or Sakamoto 11x6.00-5. The PSI ran as of 8/4/22 is 21PSI. The kart weighs about 300lbs with batteries, without driver, and has a weight limit of about 200lbs.

Track Name: LeMans

Track count: 1

The Autobahn Manassas track is a small track with a top speed of 40MPH in the adult karts and 25MPH in the junior karts. The track contains 7 corners with 2 long straights. The track has 5 right hand corners and 2 left hand corners. The track also has 2 consecutive hairpins. a right hander and a left hander. The first hairpin being specifically difficult by entering at around 40MPH. The track has gone through 3 variations. The first variation included an extra 2 corners in the form of consecutive hairpins. a left hander followed by a right hander. The track had 2 braking points at the time. After difficulties with the track supports breaking out of the concrete from customers entering the left hand hairpin at around 30MPH and hitting the barrier for the right hand hairpin. This first track variation was chained little by little by pushing the apex of the right hand hairpin back by about a foot each time it broke. After the fourth time it broke, it was temporarily fixed before major work begun on that portion of the track.

The second variation saw the removal of the first 2 hairpins replaced with a high speed sweeping corner, reducing lap times by a full second. There were issues again with this second track as the infamous "pyramid corner", a bit of track jetting out into the track, reducing width of the track. The issue was by accidentally hitting the apex of the sweeper too hard, your kart would bounce back out past the racing line and in most cases, hitting head on into the "pyramid corner". Thankfully, drivers were never hurt and the track never broke out of place, but there were a lot of bent bolts in the concrete.

The third variation saw "Pyramid corner" completely removed and replace by a small bump. of course, since the apex speed of the sweeper was about 35MPH, the bump was heavily reinforced with Microsand and "juggernaut" support. There have not been any notable crashes since the track change and the lap times were again reduced by about 2 tenths of a second. (0.200)
