The association

edit

HaSi is operated by non-profit association Hackerspace Siegen e. V. and is mainly financed by about 30 members and donations. A membership in the association is not required to take part in the mostly cost-free workshops and meetings.

The purpose of the association is the creation of an environment for youth work, adult education, modern information privacy and socializing between communities.

The hackerspace

edit

HaSi is located on the former site of in Siegen-Hammerhütte.

The hackspace itself consists of four rooms (totaling 160m²). The first an largest room works as community work-and-fun place. It also holds public workshops, presentations and the like. Two small rooms of equal size hold a podcasting-studio and a biolab. The last room is a working-colocation. The hackspace also holds two bathrooms, a shower and a kitchen. Altogether, this hackspace holds areas for electronics, etching for producing printed circuit boards and a workshop.

Awareness

edit

Although a young hackspace, it already spawned serveral activities and groups (Transition town, cryptoparties and Capture-the-Flag-teams). It also works closely with the IT-security department of the local university Siegen.

The association organizes and publishes speeches weekly, for example about Art and Hacking.

Because members of the hackerspace are actively participating in hacker events like Chaos Communication Congress, SIGINT or FrOsCon, the HaSi meanwhile has an outstanding perception in the German and European hacker subculture. It is also one of the last hackspaces that sells Club-Mate for less than a euro.
