Hi,

I was born in Scotland but came to Sydney, Australia, in 1964 when my father was offered a job here. Never looked back.

I've worked in IT since 1978, having written my first computer program in 1971 when I was studying for a Chemical Engineering degree at UNSW.

Since then I've obtained a Bachelor of Arts (European History) from the University of New England (NSW) and a Masters of Arts (Egyptology) from Macquarie University.

Other than history and computing, I am very interested in aircraft, weather, motor racing (primarily formula 1 and motogp), rugby (union of course), brewing beer, electronics (and IoT) and world politics.

My handle - Harkhuf - is the name of one of the most interesting people from the Egyptian Old Kingdom. I had the opportunity to translate his autobiography while doing my Masters at Macquarie (thank you Professor Kanawati for your help).
