Gino O'Boyle is an Irish politician, activist and Councilor based in County Sligo.
Background
editHailing from a working class background in Forthill[1], O'Boyle was involved in both local and community projects. In 2015, following the death of his, father Seamus whom was a People Before Profit councilor, O'Boyle was co-opted onto Sligo County Council[2].
Elections Contested
editIn 2019 O'Boyle contested to retain his County Council seat during the Irish Local Elections. He was successful in being elected on the sixth count. One year later O'Boyle contested in the Irish General Election, running in the Sligo-Lietrim constituency. He received 2.88% of the first preference vote and was not elected[3]. O'Boyle became Mayor of Sligos Borough district after being nominated by Declan Bree in 2019[4].
Views
editO'Boyle has often drawn attention to the Irish housing crisis as well as the importance of youth and mental health facilities. He also concerns himself with issues of animal welfare[4].
