Kindle C. Couch was a politician in St. Johns, Oregon. He served in several capacities including the state legelature and the mayor's office.

Early life edit

Kindle C. Couch was born on July 4, 1860 in Henry County, Ohio. Mostly self-educated, it was difficult for Couch to spell simple words. Couch worked on his father's farm until he was 23 years old. He also worked at a general store where he learned how to run a business. Ditch work and road improvement work proved to be too strenuous for Couch leading him to quit manual labor. His first job away from home was a cashier position in Temple, Michigan. He worked on-and-off in Michigan in general stores and mills before moving to Oregon.[1]

Life in Oregon edit

In 1904, Couch moved to St. Johns, Oregon, a newly-established city on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon. He opened a general merchandising store and found financial success quickly. With St. Johns in need of capital, Couch and other town capitalists incorporated the Pennisula Bank. Couch was one of the main stockholders.[2]
