Hal Goodtree is a digital content entrepreneur in Cary, North Carolina. He is the recipient of a 1996 commercial Emmy and a 2002 Lion at the Cannes Advertising Festival.

Early Life edit

Mr. Goodtree was born in New York City to Selma and Louis Goodtree in 1958. The family lived in Stuyvesant Town, a development for World War II veterans on Manhattan's East side.

The family moved to New Jersey in the early 1960's. Mr. Goodtree graduated from Montclair Kimberley Academy in 1976. He attended Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey, majoring in history. Mr. Goodtree won the Rutgers Prize in English in 1980.

Career - Benton & Bowles edit

In 1981, Mr. Goodtree joined the advertising firm of Benton & Bowles in New York. During his 13 years with the agency, he rose to the position of Senior Producer, working on brands including Scope, Crest, Burger King and Whirlpool.

Independent Producer edit

From 1995-2003, Mr. Goodtree worked as an independent producer for ad agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi, J. Walter Thompson, Draft and Digitas.

He was Chairman of the Producers Network in New York from 1996-1998. In 1999, he co-founded the AICP/MoMA Show in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the North Carolina School of Art.

He worked with James Earl Jones for four years as a producer for Bell Atlantic. In 2000, Mr. Goodtree was on staff at the National Football League, producing television advertising for all broadcast games and channels in the U.S. He also worked on the launch of NFL.com.

Executive Producer edit

Mr. Goodtree joined director Conrad Fink as Executive Producer for This Is TV. Their clients included Time Warner, The New York Times and General Motors and Young & Rubicam.

Mr. Goodtree was accepted into the Directors Guild of America in 2005 as a First AD.

Digital Entrepreneur edit

In early 2006, Mr. Goodtree decided to retire from television to pursue a career as a writer for the Internet. In 2007, he started Online-Copywriter.com which quickly grew into a boutique web agency.

Goodtree & Co., Inc. was incorporated in January of 2007. Notable projects include North Hills.

In July 2009, Goodtree & Co. launched CaryCitizen to serve the needs of North Carolina's seventh largest city.

Awards edit

Mr. Goodtree's work was awarded a commercial Emmy in 1996 for his work as the producer for the New York Mets and Sportschannel. The production also featured the work of actors Joe Narcisco and Hardy Rawls.

In 2002, Mr. Goodtree's anti-smoking campaign for Luckie & Co and the State of Alabama was awarded a Lion at the Cannes International Advertising Festival.
