Saint Emygdius was a particulat saint, who according to legend, was making lots of miracles, and who when martyred, waswalking around a cetain distance with his head in his hands, pointing out the place where he wanted to be buried. A church was built on this place. The painting is today in The National Gallery of London

He was born in a royal family, in the capital of the ancient kingdoms of Southeast Bengal, in a city that was in those time a vivid center of the Buddhist academic and cultural life of the region. He has chosen to became a monk. He was a learned academic, and it is said that he had more than 150 teachers, had skills in the art of music, logic and philosophy. His teachings were spread by his followers.

Or so they thought, later they changed their minds, and after several decades brought him back, but he was dead by that time. Since then the Brazilians regarded him as one of the greatest Brazilians.
