Me, myself and I

edit

Hey Y'all! My name is Hollie Norman. With the intro, you can probably figure that I am a born and raised GRIT. For you yankees, that acronym stands for Girl Raised In The south. I grew up a Methodist Christian, and will always be a christian. However, I will never push my religion onto anyone, I am very accepting of others beliefs. I believe that you should respect people's opinions and beliefs. I attended all different types of churches with friends growing up, including Southern Baptist to Mormon. I was born and raised in Augusta, Ga. Even though I grew up in the south, I do know how to use correct english, and I do not believe that I live to serve my husband and have babies my whole life. Those things are very important to me, however I am also driven to recieve a proper education and college degree. I am a pre-nursing major and freshman at Georgia Southern University. Now I know what you are thinking, "Oh, she must be a party girl!" Well, yes I do like to occasionally go out and have fun with friends, but I do not let it interfere with my work. I have the HOPE scholarship through the state of Georgia to help with tuition, however the scholarship definiely does not give enough, in my opinion. I am on wikipedia for a college english 1101 class, but surprisingly I am enjoying learning all of the backgroud work that goes into the program. In high school, I took Advanced Placement classes in World History and United States History. I also was a cheeleader for 7 years, and a competitive dancer for 12. I won Miss Congeniality of my high school my senior year in the Miss Grovetown High pageant. I also earned the President's Award through cheerleading while the sqaud put in 15 hours of community service per person to earn it. On a lighter note, I love to just hang out with my friends, bake, go to the gym, and paint my fingernails to relieve stress. Ya know, the common girly things that girls do. :)

My award-winning details in wikipedia

edit

Not hardly award-winning, but my first contributions to wikipedia were a few edits to some articles that needed to be fixed. This helped me understand the general ways of wikipedia, as well as made me more confident about starting my very own article Christiane Reimann. I will continue to work on this article by doing some more reasearch and improving the overall article itself.

How technology confuses me more than it helps.

edit

Technology and I have a love/hate relationship. It always seems that everytime that I have a big project or major paper due, the system seems to shut down. Something will go wrong. Unlike my father, who is a certified Database Administrator, I did not exactly "learn from the best." I do, however have good skills on websites like facebook, twitter, and stumbleupon. These I love to get on, and do on a religious basis. Other programs that I am always on include my georgia southern, mymathlab, and mastering environmental science. These useless webstites seem to be taking up a lot more of my time than anticipated. In the future, I will definitely have to enhance my technological skills, however. This is because I am going to be a Registered Nurse. Everyday in nursing, new technology is coming out to enhance the health care system. I will have to learn how to use everyday systems for patient's information, as well as tools used for actual patient care. Other pieces of information are involved with technology, as well. Such as, how to use it. I will learn all of that in college, and Nursing school.

Wikipedia? pshh, only just everything you need to know.

edit

I personally, use wikipedia everyday. If I ever want to know about something, or have a question about a certain topic, I simply google it. Almost everytime I google a topic, wikipedia has a page on it that comes up. It has helped me on many a research papers and homework assignments...SHHH! Don't tell my teachers! My high school teachers were not as fond of wikipedia as I am, however I always used it as a source.

I think that wikipedia has many intelligent people who know certain topics thoroughly. If they did not know about the topic and wrote about it, others would criticize their work very quickly. Through this class, I have learned that wikipedia has many regulations on whether a topic is notable, or not, or if the work is well-written, or not. I think that for citations for a college paper, you could use wikipedia for a base source, if your teacher allows it. However, you should use other sources to stabalize the information you obtained from wikipedia. This is because of the fact that anyone can edit wikipedia at any time they please. I think that the way wkipedia is set up is very beneficial to the public. The fact that "the sky is the limit" on what you can write about it great, because... it is an encyclopedia about everything, right?

I have also learned through this process that Wikipedia is a great source for information because you can go to the sources cited at the end of the page, and use those "dependable" sites as a source for your own works. Sites such as galileo can be confusing while you search through them. Wikipedia helps you understand what those websites say, in paragraph form all together.

How I Speak

edit

Languages are kinda like my field of technology...not very broad. I am an english speaker, simply because I grew up in the United States. However, I can speak Southern if you ask me to. For example: "Let's go over yonder cause I'm fixing to get tired of this shopping with this buggy in Wal-Mart right this second." My mother is a french teacher in high school, and I have been to Paris and Barcelona, so my exposure to other languages is larger than others. However, I would not be comfortable holding a conversation with a foreigner that spoke another language.

I did, actually take french in high school. Couldn't tell you much of what I learned, but...I did take it!

How will I use wikipedia in the future?

edit

I'm going to be honest here, I probably will never submit another article to wikipedia...unless however I have another class that requires it. However, I will use it when I need help learning what something is, or ya know...that occasional reasearch paper that just pops up back in your brain the night before it is due.
