THIS IS A PAGE I INTEND TO USE FOR EVOLVING MY PERSONAL STANDARDS FOR NOMINATING CANDIDATES FOR THE POST OF ADMINISTRATOR. Please reply in the comments section if you have to. My talk page should be used only if I do not respond to the comments here for more than three days. Of course, this does not apply to the periods I am on a wikibreak. ;)

Disclaimer

The objective of this page is to guide me and interested wikifriends in broadening the admin pool. These would be guidelines for me, but my violation of these cannot be used to haul me up in a court of law, or even worse, in an arbcom case ;)

Objective measures

These measures are not to be viewed as independent of one another but should be viewed taken together.

> 3000 edits	- To get a good idea of WP processes, this would be optimal.
Edits/page < 3	- To ensure that the editor travels wide and far.
Average edits/ day > 10	- To ensure that the editor is generally around.
Account age > 6 months	- To establish a minimum credible commitment to WP.
Edits to main namespace >= 50%	- To recognise the fact that we are building an encyclopedia.

Like to see

• Participation across namespaces.
• Usage of edit summaries and Show preview button.
• Non-flashy signature.

I would probably vote oppose if all these three are violated to a large extent, but the presence of these may be no guarantee that I would nominate the person.

Qualitative measures

• Quality of work.
• Quality of interactions.

Users that I plan to watch

The section title may be misleading because I'd have already interacted with these users in some other context. Let the title be, as, "What's in a name??" this section has two sub-sections, Indian and others for the simple reason that I work mostly on India-related pages and as such I run into more Indian users. For each name, I would list some roadblocks that can be expected in RFA - the worst case scenarios, apart from some comments. I am not very keen to nominate very active editors to the main space as I believe that it would divert their valuable time as I mentioned elsewhere.

Indians

User:Djr xi	- Currently his RFA is on, but could be derailed due to misunderstanding of his stance by some of the people
User:Tintin1107	- Low recent activity, however, I think he could break BD2412's RFA record, but doesn't seem interested in adminship yet
User:Idleguy	- A very senior editor; however, works on articles contentious by nature (e.g. wars) and so, rfa may attract unforeseen opposition
User:Ganeshk	- Edit summary & show preview button usage need improvement; I need to look at his contribs to main namespace
User:Deeptrivia	- Fine editor except for the faux pas regarding the Hindu Arabic numerals.

In your assessment of user:Deeptrivia regarding the Hindu-Arabic numerals controversy - please do not fail to note that: He was unfailingly civil to all, and exhaustively worked to reply on those endless discussions - he did not tire or give up (actually he expressed such intent and exasperation, but came back pretty quickly) even when it got far out of hand. And since criticism has fallen upon even credible and experienced Wikipedians for that affair, I feel any misconduct (revert, move, whatever) should not be an issue at all. However, trolls and problem users from that debate are sure to attempt to block his RFA.

He has been involved in several controversial episodes. In his RFA, he is sure to be targeted by the trolls, problem users and folks who feel wronged. Thus his nominators and supporters must be careful to tackle the difficult questions with candor and direct evidence. I hope I don't come across as his political campaign manager!

In my opinion, please approach user:Ganeshk now about the adminship, as Bhadaniji suggested to move fast. Perhaps he too will be completely ready by March 2006. I would also watch user:Deepak gupta - the only problem there is that his activity and attention to Wikipedia work/issues is not sufficient (quite reasonably). user:Idleguy

I wonder whether we could make a move for Idleguy. He does some of the very thankless jobs and has done some outstanding work. Some of his war articles are models on how to use references (he has to be nearly perfect, or the POV pushers will never give him peace). Considering his area of work, adminship would be useful for him to ward off the trolls.

As Gurubrahma mentioned, some people will certainly create trouble, so we will have to prepare well. Can we sound him out on this ? Tintin (talk) 16:05, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

user:Saravask

As suggested by User:Nichalp on my talk page, we may also request User:Saravask to come forward to take up admin responsibility. In fact, all users who conform to the general standard set forth here should be nominated for adminship - of course, with some intervals. --Bhadani 17:48, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

• Hi — I'm responding to a comment/request left on my talk page by Bhadani. I'm extremely flattered that I'm being considered along with Deeptrivia and Idleguy for adminship nomination. However, I must kindly refuse for now. I mainly build articles, and don't see myself as having been around long enough or in real need of sysop powers right now. I may reconsider this after several more months' participation in India-related articles. But now that I think about it, I think Rama's Arrow would make a suitable alternate candidate, and should be nominated immediately. He's written a large featured article (Political integration of India), is polishing Lothal up for FAC, and is calm/respectful in dealing w/ criticism. I may just nominate him myself. Thanks. • So I take it that I'm Mr. D, and Mr. A (Rama's Arrow) has also already refused adminship, without my knowledge? Is this possibly due to his (possible) past incivility (that I don't know about) or lack of experience w/ Wikipedia process? Also, is there a great need to find more Indians to take up adminship, for example to resolve India-related backlogs (such as the one at WP:RPP))? Thanks. Saravask 02:23, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

• OK. I'm sorry I didn't know this. Although I may stand for adminship and could use sysop tools to speed-up processing of India-related (and other) articles at WP:RPP (where I've repeatedly experienced very slow service regarding unprotecting Kerala), I'm not sure if I'm notable/familiar enough to the India-related contributors to be nominated. It's unfortunate that Rama's Arrow has only been contributing since November 2005 — looking at a few RFA's, a nomination of him now would likely end in failure on these grounds.
