Assignment: Foreign Legion was a British television drama starring Merle Oberon that was first shown in the United Kingdom from the fall of 1956 through the spring of 1957; some of the episodes were broadcast in the United States between October and December 1957.

Intel Films of London was the company behind the production of the series. CBS Television Film Sales Inc. took a production credit for the US broadcasts. The episodes were filmed on location in Algeria and Morocco and at the Beaconsfield Studios located in Buckinghamshire, England.

Twenty-six episodes, each thirty minutes and B&W, were produced by E. M. Smedley-Aston and Herman J. Blaser. All episodes were shown on:

Premise

A female correspondent played by Merle Oberon seeks the stories behind the men of the French Foreign Legion. Sometimes the character is part of the story; sometimes she is only the narrator.

Background

The series was mostly filmed on location in Algeria and Morocco with the cooperation of the French Foreign Legion. The conflict between the French Foreign Legion and native Algerian forces during 1955 forced the crew to return to Beaconsfield Studios in Buckinghamshire to complete filming.[1]
