The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games were one of several international sporting events held in Britain during the 2010s decade.

The United Kingdom was awarded, or bid to hold, a number of major international sporting events during the 2010s leading to an idea of a 'Golden Decade' in British sport.[1]

Following on from this a number of further sporting events to be held in the 2020's were bid for.

July - UEFA Euro 2020 finals at Wembley Stadium in London

2021 edit

10–14 June 2019–21_ICC_World_Test_Championship final.

July/August UEFA_Women's_Euro_2021.

October/November 2021 Rugby League World Cup.[2]

2022 edit

July/August - 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Forthcoming events edit

2020 UEFA Euro 2020 finals edit

Wembley Stadium will host 3 group-stage matches, one round-of-16 match, both semi-finals, and the final. It was originally scheduled to host only the semi-finals and final, but was awarded an additional "standard package" of games after UEFA removed Brussels as a host-city due to doubts over the timely construction of the new Eurostadium[3].

2022 Tour de France Grand Depart edit

Yorkshire has bid to host the Grand Depart stage of the 2022 Tour De France.[4]

2023 Champions League Final edit

May - 2023 UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium. [5]

2024 Vuelta Espana Opening Stage edit

Yorkshire has bid to host the opening stage of the 2024 Vuelta Espana.[6] ===2027/2029 IAAF World Championships. [7]

2030 FIFA World Cup edit

England's Football Association has indicated it is considering a bid for the 2030 edition of the men's football world cup. [8]
