The Big Bang Theory is an American sitcom that premiered on CBS on September 24, 2007. The series has a total of 175 episodes. The show was created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, who also serve as the show's executive producers and head writers. The show is centered on five friends: Leonard Hofstadter, Sheldon Cooper, Penny (whose surname has yet to be revealed), Howard Wolowitz, and Raj Koothrappali all living in the city of Pasadena, California.
As Of March 1, 2015, The Big Bang Theory has been nominated for 134 awards, winning 35 (or 1 out of every 3) of them. Most of the awards were focused on Jim Parsons' role as Sheldon Cooper, who won several Emmy Awards including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. In total, the show was nominated for 33 Emmy Awards. It also received seven nominations for the Golden Globe Awards, one of them won by Parsons, which was a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical, that was presented by his co-star Kaley Cuoco.
