Augustus Frederick James Bowen, RN Augustus Frederick James Bowen was born in 1804. He entered the Royal Navy in 1821. He assisted Henry Wolsey Bayfield in the survey of the St Lawrence River. He later sailed to Tasmaina Australia, and took up residence in Middle Arm, West Tamar. He was a member of the Royal Society of Tasmania. He was made Justice of the Peace in October 1855. He died at home on 20th October 1870. He was survived by 10 children, and wife Fanny (nee Levett).
