The term "Father of the Greeks" was used after the death of John III Vatatzes from the Greeks of the Empire as John III Vatatzes revived the Greek national consciousness in the empire and he wanted to make it clear that the race of the Greeks is the only proven successor of the Empire of Constantine the Great.
