Musical Background and Outlook
My musical background has been shaped in many ways throughout my life and continues to be shaped till this day. I grew up in a Spanish-speaking household with my dad being a very famous Latin songwriter and producer, and my mom being the vice president of Sony Music Publishing. Since the day I was born I was exposed to a lot of Latin music. Moving to Miami also exposed me a whole lot to English-speaking music and to a totally different culture of music. Everyday I would turn on the radio and listen to all the current hits at the time along with classic songs. As I grew older and technology advanced more and more, I would use the likes of YouTube and iTunes to keep discovering new artists and stay up to date with what was going on with music. I eventually picked up on playing the piano to figure out my favorite songs by ear. What started out as a hobby began to grow with each passing day and with each song that I covered until I began writing original songs. I also started playing guitar along the way, with my dad showing me basic chords to play and from there learned more on my own.
As the years went by and with each song I wrote I got better with my craft. I am proud that my talents as a songwriter gave me the opportunity to come to Berklee and further develop my songwriting capabilities. I’ve grown so much as a musician, songwriter and as a person since my first semester and I’ve written songs that I thought I’d never be capable of writing. In this last semester that I’m currently in I hope to write a lot more songs both individually and with other songwriters to keep gaining experiencing and continue to grow. I also hope to sharpen my recording skills and have the knowledge and ability to record my own material as well as other people’s material. As my career continues, I want to keep working hard to establish a name for myself as a songwriter writing for other artists. If that happens and the opportunity presents itself, I want to then make a name for myself as a singer/songwriter and write my own material. Being a record producer is also a goal of mine to achieve. I would love to produce songs or full albums for other artists as well as myself. It is definitely a difficult and tedious road that lies ahead, but I have faith that I can make it far in this career and make music that will be loved and respected by many people around the world.
