The gas yard is in Minton Lane, North Shields. The 90 foot high gas holder which was built in 1906 and has been standing for more than a century. The tank could hold 1.4 million cubic feet of gas. The tanks stored gas for other towns such as Tynemouth, Cullercoats and Whitley bay. Many people would go to work up the lane which is now an road what leads you to the enterence , the enterance is a big metal gate. If you go and look though the gates you see the top of a tank you only see the top of the tank because it was built in the ground the top bit you see is white. The tank is surrounded by a big brick wall to stop people from climbing over and putting there lives in danger. The gas was used for many many years, lots of people had there use from the gas yard. The tank is surrounded by some bare land which is not in use there might of been other tanks in 1906 we never know.
