Article- Petrified wood

11/10 Thanked WP editor MartinezMD and Shalor for helping me with my article. Added image to main page. Watched youtube on how to add image to wikipedia. (30min)

11/4 Moved sandbox section into main article. Recorrected the references list. 30min

11/3 Tried moving the new section from my sandbox into main article. Was successful posting it into the main page, however a contributor named MartinezMD left a message under Talk and why he deleted it. My citation is locked behind a member login he said. Also the picture link I added needed to be corrected. I also rewatched the training tutorial for "Moving work out of the sandbox". Also watched a couple Youtube videos on how to add pictures to Wiki. Watched video on correct inserts for citations. Watched how to move draft out of sandbox. I'm sorry I tried to move my article to live but was unsuccessful. I do not know how to proceed from here because I do not know how to unlock the butte member id so viewers on the main page can see my citation in the new section I did. Also I do not want to insert the Petrified wood jewelry picture into the live article without being able to put the new section that it refers too (2 hours)

11/2- Had to research online how to add cite into article. Found my article (website) for adding cite into new section of my article. Rewatched how to insert pictures. (1 hour)

10/26- Did training video on how to add sandbox text to main article. Also looked for more references and added it into sandbox. Will add more text to new section soon. Might look into adding popular geologists as a new section. (30min)

10/20- Took 2 training lessons for wikipedia, Plagiarism and Adding Media. Used Creative Commons/Wikipedia Commons to begin searching for petrified wood jewelry/art pictures. Found a picture. Filled in appropriate licensing information and author. Copy and pasted files into Sandbox to figure out how to add to article. Going to continue researching and writing into the new section "Uses for Petrified Woods". Looking for additional sources to use. (90 min)

10/17- Began to add a new section for Petrified woods. Did some research and began writing a section regarding jewelry/history of Petrified wood into my sandbox above. Still going to research for more info. (60 min)

10/16-Read a message from Shalor on my Talk page. She was helpful with suggestions. She also started a draft page for me. I asked her another question about using websites as references. I cannot remember is this was allowed? I found a website that sells petrified wood jewelry but also gives information too. Am I allowed to use that website as a reference/source? I know we are supposed to use actual authors, newspapers, library books but wanted to double check about websites. Also I have been trying to look for the answer myself on wikipedia. I will go back and look at the tutorials. Made a new section for petrified wood. Still trying to gather more information. (30 min)

10/13- Received a response from my teacher on how to proceed. I was able to email the librarian this semester, Rachel @ arteagara@butte.edu regarding help on Wikipedia. Hopefully I will be able to meet with her and go over some questions. I will try and re-watch some tutorials on Wikipedia and also look around at talk pages. I will also go over my article and check that all citation links and reference links work. Hopefully I will get the hang of this. Re-took the training tutorial for sandbox. Looked at other students sandbox to see how their editing their article and what their page looks like. Updated my notes. (45 min)

10/8- Tried going on Campus and getting help in RM 143 tutor LRC. He did not know how to help me. I still have no clue what I am supposed to be doing to this article? Am I supposed to copy and paste and add/delete sentences? Then save? I will email you again. Looked at other students sandbox to get an idea of what it looks like. Searched virtual libraries for more references. Emailed librarian, moderator of wiki for help. Re-did a training manual. (30 min)

10/6 Copy and pasted a couple paragraphs to read through. I have no clue what I'm supposed to do or how to copy and paste whole article in my sandbox. I need help on campus from someone. Found some references and added to sandbox.

10/5 Searched and Found an article on Petrified wood. Going to read through whole article to see if anything needs improvement. I have no clue what I’m supposed to be doing? Am I supposed to be copying and pasting the article into my sandbox? Changing things? Is there help on campus for Wikipedia? (45 min)

I am going to be adding to the Humbug Marsh article. I tried looking at the virtual library but do not have access to it. I would like to add more content to the article as well as pictures, some history. I have managed to find a couple references.

9/28- Found some resources but I need help. There are not that many resources for my topic. When I search Gale Virtual library it says none found.

Uses for Petrified Woods

edit

Following the Great Depression in the 1930's, people began flocking to the mountains and deserts hoping to discover any sort of rock, stone or gem that could be turned into jewelry as a source of income. An assortment of rock were discovered which included Petrified woods. "Rockhounding", as hobbyists would call it became very popular. Many rock clubs began to establish throughout the United States. Soon after collectors started setting up rock shops where they were able to sell their merchandise to the public. As years went by Rockhounder's would perfect their craft at making jewelry using all sorts of different techniques, equipment and molds. Having experience with their craft, first generation Rockhounders would soon teach fellow amateurs their skills. [1]

10/2- Good start. I'll put you in contact with our reference librarian. What will you be adding, specifically, to the article? Take a look through this handout for some more ideas: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/96/Evaluating_Wikipedia_brochure_%28Wiki_Education_Foundation%29.pdf

10/15- Have you heard anything from Rachel yet? Here is where we left off: I wrote: if "Petrified Wood" needs citation improvements, I would focus there. For instance the list under "North America" doesn't have any little footnotes. Check out the Talk page too, all the way at the bottom, where someone has worked on fixing external links. Can you check the references too, and see if any external links need fixed? (The quizzes you took should help tell you how to do this, but the Wikipedia Quick Guides I posted are also a good reference./) Finally, Rachel Arteaga is our on-call librarian this semester.

10/25- Your new section looks great! Can you use the "Cite tool to insert a citation there. I think you'll be able to use the website you found. Write up the content and add the citation for it and we'll have Shalor look it over to make sure, okay? Glad you're on track!!

11/1- I'm still not seeing citations in the new section you drafted. Add those use "Cite tool soon. Sunday 11/3 is the deadline to move it to main space. And then you'll be done!
