Cheras is a township and mukim located in Hulu Langat District, Selangor, Malaysia. It consists of neighbourhoods Batu 9 Cheras, Batu 10 Cheras, Bandar Damai Perdana, Balakong, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, and Sungai Long. The mukim is governed by the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), which also governed other areas of Hulu Langat district, such as Kajang, Bandar Baru Bangi, and Semenyih. Located southeast to Kuala Lumpur, Cheras serves as a major suburb for the city due to its proximity.

Cheras is currently divided between two parliamentary seats and is served by two representatives in the Federal Parliament. It is also similarly divided between three state representatives in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly. The local administration of Cheras is carried out by Kajang Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Kajang, MPKj), represented by six local councilors.

Lutheran Church in Malaysia operates several churches in Cheras since the early 1950s. Notable standalone Lutheran churches include 11th Mile Cheras Lutheran Church, 9th Mile Cheras Lutheran Church, and Balakong Unity Lutheran Church. Church service are conducted in English, Mandarin, and Malay.

There are also several notable Chinese temple in Cheras, they are Tian Zun Temple (天尊公庙) and Xing An Temple (星安庙).

Cheras is well-connected to the wider Klang Valley region via two major highways, namely the   Cheras–Kajang ExpresswayCheras-Kajang Expressway, which connects to Kuala Lumpur to the north and Kajang to the south; and the   Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK) which connects to Seri Kembangan in the west and Semenyih to the east.

Public Transportation

Public transportation service is provided by Rapid KL and the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKJ).

Rail

Passenger rail service is provided exclusively by the MRT Kajang Line, which is part of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System run by Rapid Rail since 2017. There are currently five Kajang Line MRT stations serving Cheras, namely  KG27  Taman Suntex station,  KG28  Sri Raya station,  KG29  Bandar Tun Hussein Onn station,  KG30  Batu 11 Cheras station and  KG31  Bukit Dukung station. Park and ride facility is provided at the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn station.

Cheras is served by numerous local bus routes operated by Rapid Bus and Kajang Municipal Council.

Healthcare

Healthcare coverage in Cheras is provided by both the public and private healthcare system. Currently there are two private hospital serving Cheras, namely the Columbia Asia Hospital Cheras and Sungai Long Specialist Hospital. There is no public hospital located within Cheras. There are currently three public health clinics located in Cheras, they are Klinik Kesihatan Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Klinik Kesihatan Batu Sembilan, and Klinik Kesihatan Balakong.
