Djo Mpoyi edit

Joseph Mpoyi KanyindaMpoyi Kaninda Joseph (1950 to 1993) in Lumumbashi) was a singer, author, compositor of Pop & Soukous music from 1967 to 1993.

Joseph Mpoyi Kaninda is a congolese artist who begin his career in 1967 interpreting pop music such as Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson in the Katanga region of Congo (RDC).

He then move to Kinshasa in 1968 to perform in the Jamel orchestra of the Kabangu brothers, with Tony as the solo guitarist and Fauvette as the bassist.

In 1969 while performing pop music with the Lovy of Zair, he integrate the chorus of the orchestra by demand of Vicky Longomba the lead singer. He sings as a third party of the voices dialoguing with the solo of Vicky Longomba.

From 1976 to 1977 he perform Soukous in the Kara orchestra.

In 1978 as he gets notoriety performing with the Ya Tupas orchestra of Ray Lema, he is approached by the already famous O.K. Jazz orchestra of witch he refuses the offer to integrate the orchestra.

In 1979 he finally accept to join the T.P. O.K. Jazz orchestra of Luambo Franco. On the first concert with his new orchestra in the room "le Claridge" he impress the public by performing variety songs but also the songs of the ex-lead singer of the orchestra Sam Mangwana. He then make great entry in the vinyl industry with the song Kadima , wrote especially by Simaro Lutumba to show the vocal talents of Djo Mpoyi.

During the year 1979 to 1980 he first extends his good reputation in Congo, to the rest of Africa, and then beyond the borders of Africa itself. Those years marked the peak of his career.

In 1982 he create the orchestra "Cannon du Zaïre" with his friend Lukoki Diatho. Releasing Vinyl such as Lubuela, but the success is not as good as it was with the T.P O.K. orchestra.

In 1984 he joins the "Tiers monde coopération" orchestra with Empompo Lowayi, Ndombe Opetum, Sam Mangwana and Diatho Lukoki. He sings the songs "Cents moins un" et "Vava" written by Diatho Lukoki.

Undermined by years of harshness, punishing his idleness and laziness with music. He decays slowly while dragging a disease that finally leads to his death in 1993
