Bruno Luciano Nicolás Carlucci (born January 28, 1985), also known by his nicknames Bruno or Statsman Bruno, is a well known English Dota 2 commentator, statistician and E-sports personality. He currently works with the GD Studio.[2]
Biography edit
Carlucci was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1985. He visited the Instituto Schönthal High School from which he graduated with a special orientation towards Computer Science in 2002. He attended the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology with a scholarship and graduated in 2007 with a masters' degree in Computer Science. Bruno remained a professor at the institute for five years while pursuing other projects.[1] He was introduced to the original DotA game by a friend "a long long time ago".[2] In 2009, after two years in the software industry, Carlucci founded ZempIT, a software development company based in Buenos Aires.[1]
After selling his business and taking some time off,[3] Bruno co-founded Dota Academy, a statistics website keeping track of matches and player performances in the Dota 2 competitve scene.[2][4] He attended The International 2012, the biggest Dota 2 tournament by then, where he met James "2GD" Harding, a member of the analyst panel. Harding then suggested to add Bruno to the panel. With Valve, the creators of Dota 2 and hosts of The International, following Harding's suggestion, Carlucci's career as a caster began and he became known as Statsman Bruno.[3] Since Bruno was inclined to leave Argentina anyways, he took up on an offer by James to join his Stockholm based casting studio, The GD Studio, in 2013. In the same year he attended The International 2013 as part of the analyst panel once again. He currently is also helping Harding with the development of an e-sports game called Reborn.[2]
Dota 2 edit
Bruno has attended every International so far and was part of the analyst panel in 2012, 2013 and 2014. He is widely known as the "Statsman" due to his love for statistics. As the Statsman for The International, he provides relevant statistics on a match-by-match basis.
One of his first Dota 2 related projects, Dota Academy, was a stastical website for the Dota 2 competitive scene. When asked what his fascination for statistics is driven by, he answered:
(...) Humans love predictability. It's in the basis of our brain: you plant a seed, it grows into a plant; you eat meat, you feel full; you sleep, you don't feel tired anymore. But most things in this world are not deterministic, and it's those things that unleash man's imagination the most. Multiple Gods of Sun, Rain and Death were created to try to explain unreliable phenomena, just because we needed to cope with them in our minds. (...)[3]
