The Commons serves as a notable addition to UBC Okanagan, Kelowna, British Columbia, providing enhanced facilities for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.[1]

Originally conceived as an extension to the existing Library building, the Commons was designed to offer a versatile multipurpose space. Its features include a 400-seat classroom, a visualization and emerging media studio, a graduate commons, and over 350 additional study and collaborative spaces.[1]

Characterized by a futuristic and state-of-the-art design, the Commons is structured to foster collaboration, scholarly engagement, and innovation. Its distinct architecture aims to create an environment that encourages various academic activities.[1]

The Commons (COM) 201

The Commons (COM) 201 is a tiered classroom capable of seating 400. It features descending rows of fixed tables facing two large projector screens. This room is often used for large class sections that required a lot of seating. [2]

Lois and Cliff Serwa Reading Room

The Lois and Cliff Serwa Reading Room is a quiet study space on the ground floor next to the Library building featuring natural light and a variety of seating options.[3]

North Reading Room

The North Reading Room is located on the third floor, is a quiet environment, and features high and low seating options.[3]

D. Ross Fitzpatrick Great Hall

The D. Ross Fitzpatrick Great Hall (named after Canadian Senator David Ross Fitzpatrick) spans the lower and ground floor of the building. It has a fifty-foot ceiling and a variety of flexible seating. The floor to ceiling windows provide ample natural light throughout the year. [3]
