BRIEF OF THE REGIMENT

1. The regiment was raised on 14 May 1956at Asafnagar, Hyderabad under the aegis of 27 Artillery Brigade. 8 Madras was nominated & converted to 4 Field Regiment with nucleus technical manpower provided from 7,9 & 11 Field Regiments. The Regiment has a direct affiliation with MRC.

2. The regiment has the distinct honour of participating in all major operations since its inception. The glorious history of the regiment is studded with various milestones to include 1st Amphibious Artillery Regiment, 1st regiment to be inducted in high altitude area with Chinook underslung IFG & most importantly, the only artillery regiment to be conferred with four Vir Chakra awardees & thus has adopted the title of Vir Chakra Regiment.

3. Due to its remarkable service, the regiment was bestowed with the prestigious GOC-in-C South Western Command unit Appreciation in year 2019.

4. The Regiment has the formidable war cry of 'Veeran Thambi Vetri Velan' which translates to 'The Veer Thambi shall be Victorious under Lord Velan'
