The Moghul Saint of Insanity depicts the life of Aurangzeb, the sixth emperor of India. His reign of tyranny tore the fabric of the Moghul Empire into shreds. Learning too late of his follies of hatred and bigotry he prayed fervently for forgiveness on his deathbed. The gist of this book can be summed up in his last letter to one of his sons:
Soul of my soul! Now I am going alone. I grieve for your helplessness. But what is the use? Every torment I have inflicted, every sin I have committed, every wrong I have done, I carry the consequence with me. Strange that I came with nothing into this world, and now am going away with this stupendous caravan of sins. Wherever I look I see only God. No Islam But Islam This book is about what Islam Is, not about what Islam is not as proclaimed by mullahs when violence against Islam threatens their self-styled religion, endangering their lifestyle of zeal, orthodoxy and intolerance. Conceived as an antidote against those fundamentalists who denounce not the evils of terror, murder and suicide bombing, this book strives toward delineating the compassionate side of Islam during the life of Prophet Muhammad. Paradoxically, Islam as a religion of peace and reconciliation was hijacked immediately after the death of Prophet Muhammad. At the very inception of its rise to glory, it fell from the grace of purity in love, harmony and compassion. The message of Islam was sidelined if not forgotten, and rise it—Islam did to the pinnacle of expansion by sword, under the weight of an astonishing mixture of duality in cruelty and compassion, in tolerance and intolerance, in killing and forgiving. Historically, Islam emerged as a power struggle between several factions and even its great split into major sects, Shias and Sunnis and further fragmentation into multiple sects, didn’t affect its dizzying speed of conquests, along with the flourishing of arts and sciences. Sadly, the art of poetry, literature and architecture which made Islam reach the zenith of its expression, declined with the gradual onslaught of man-made laws and edicts in stark contrast to the precepts of Islam. Prophet Muhammad’s last sermon on the last holy pilgrimage to Mecca at the beginning of the first chapter is the epitome of Islam as a universal message of love, equality and compassion for all God’s creatures.

Farzana Moon is a teacher and a bibliophile/Masters in Education. A poet, historian and playwright. Writes Sufi poetry, historical, biographical accounts of the Moghul emperors and plays based on stories from religion and folklore. Irem of the Crimson Desert and Sufis and Mystics of the World are published by ATTMP. Romance Quartet is published by Fable Press. Prophet Muhammad: The First Sufi of Islam is published by Garnet Publishing UK. Holocaust of the East is published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing.
