nokta_harita_boyutuCibali Cibali is a neighborhood on the western shore of Haliç from Unkapanı to Eyüpsultan in Fatih District, Istanbul. On the opposite side is the Kasımpaşa district.

During the Byzantine period, the gate of the walls of Istanbul surrounding Haliç in today's Cibali district was called "Porta Puteae" or "Porta del Pozzo". Pierre Gilles says that the same door was called "Porta Jubalica". These names must have been taken from the Jews of Spanish descent who lived in the neighborhood until the 18th century.

According to the rumor, on the day of the conquest of Istanbul by Mehmed II on May 29, 1453, Bursa Subbaşı. Cebe Ali Bey broke the city wall gate in this district and entered the city, this gate and the surrounding district later came to be known by the name of this person and later changed to Cibali among the people.

Haraççı is a district established on the shores of Haliç at the foot of Kara Mehmed and Küçük Mustafa Paşa neighborhoods. Parallel to the Golden Horn from the north, Abdülezel Paşa Street (Kadir Has Street) passes.

Today, Cibali is a district where the middle-lower classes, small tradesmen, workers and those who came with internal migration settle. Most of those who came with migration are from Rize. The people of Cibali come from a traditionalist and conservative social structure. The mezbelelik and shipyard on the shore of Haliç district were removed in the period of 1985-1989 and replaced by a children's playground and park. The Cibali Tobacco Factory, which started production in 1884, ceased its activities in 1995. Today it is used as the main campus of Kadir Has University.
