Chassepierre (from Gaume Tchespire) is a part of the Belgian town of Florenville located in the region of Wallonia in the province of Luxembourg. The village was a separate municipality before the mergers of municipalities in 1977.
Geography
editThe village is crossed to the west by the national highway 83 Arlon-Bouillon and is bordered by the Semois, a tributary of the Meuse. It is delimited on the south by the border with France.
Toponymy
editThe name Chassepierre comes for the latin word Casa petrea that means "stone house": the village is, indeed, composed of many stone houses from the 18th and 19th century.
Culture
editThe village is well known as one of the most beautiful in Belgium and is even more famous for its international festival of street performances commonly called festival des artistes. The festival takes place every year on the second last weekend of August. The festival is the second most important waiting event in Wallonia just after the francopholies de Spa.
