The ‘I’ part of thе topic edit

  • I am a social anthroprologist with areal expertise in Turkic and Iranic speaking Inner Asia.
  • My research interest is primarily in 1) social organisation and kinship systems, 2) oral traditions, 3) material culture and the use of natural ressources by agropastoralists, hunters and foragers, 4) history and geography of animal domestication.
  • Sideline occupation includes 1) some field dialectology 2) Central Asian (ethno)music(ology) 3) North Asian studies 4) Natural History.
  • Have been doing extensive fieldwork research throughout Central Asia (former Soviet republics, Western China, Northern Afghanistan) from 1993 on and worked as a guest research fellow in various scholarly institutions in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan (1999-2002).
  • Currently an assistant professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin (2003-2009).

Languages edit

I can discuss scholarly topics in the following languages: English, French, Russian, Uzbek, Tajik, Kirghiz, Turkish. I have a basic working knowledge of German and rudiments of Yakut, Mongol and Chinese.
