WP:AFC/D drive month almost over edit

The "official" part of the WP:AFC/D drive is almost over. You are less than 10 articles away from an AFC Barnstar. As a group, we are less than 400 articles away from the 5000-article mark. Please help us get "over the top" by midnight UTC. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 12:34, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Review edit

Thanks for the input. The reason I sometimes go easy on the warnings is I try and anticipate when vandals are trolling. Trolls love a reaction, so as soon as you start warning them it becomes a game to them and just encourages more vandalism. I try to anticipate, based on the style of vandalism, just how likely they are to continue if they don't get any reaction except a revert. Often it's one vandalism and they're gone, particularly with IP vandals. Of course, if they look like they're on a mission, and continue, then they get warned. I get it wrong sometimes, but it seems to work. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 20:44, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

You welcome! I see your point about the warnings, but it is still less problimatic if you give them, it serves as a counter towards a block and it causes less hassle when the IP's contest there block if they have been warned many times. -Icewedge 20:55, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Request help with article Ancient Egypt edit

As you are listed as a member of Wikiproject:AncientEgypt, I'd like to recruit your help in reviewing the article Ancient Egypt. The article is listed as top priority in the Wikiproject and as a vital article by the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, but appears to have failed to meet Good Article criteria at its last nomination. The article is in need of some serious attention.

In the past week, I asked for (and got) the article to be semi-protected to protect against the constant barrage of vandalism. This protection lasts for two weeks. I also did a little clean-up, added a map and so on. I would like to see everyone in Wikiproject:AncientEgypt have the chance to add their input to Ancient Egypt, and get the article up to featured status as soon as possible. I believe the article is at least 80% of the way there, and some focused attention will bring it the rest of the way.

The most pressing concerns seem to be the culture/architecture section, and the achievements/unsolved problems sections. Also, the entire article, especially the achievements section, the sources, and external links need to be seriously checked for accuracy. These sections also require a little organization too.

Ancient Egypt ought to be the top priority of Wikiproject:AncientEgypt, and I look forward to working with everyone to get this article cleaned up and hopefully promoted to featured status. Thanks for your help, Jeff Dahl 03:34, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

request for comment on Hugh Hefner edit

Please take the time to go to Hugh Hefner's talkpage [1] and respond to the request for comment on what jerrygraf is trying to add that does not belong on Hugh Hefner's page, but belongs on PEI's, as well as the part I deleted is ment as a "controversial comment on the biography of a living person"Rogue Gremlin 04:24, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I will do what I can. One question though, why does your comment say the 27th of September when the page history has you down as adding this to my page on October 1st? -Icewedge 23:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Forgot to change it. Seen you responded to the request for mediation. The section in question was right above it. the "request for comment" about hugh hefner. this one "RFC: Is Playboy in The Porn Business? Does this relate to Hefner?". i'm just trying to get others that have editted Hefner's page to comment on whether it should be on his page since he has not ran the company in 19 years. These acquistions are a part of Chrisy Hefner and PEI. Least that's my opinion.Rogue Gremlin 23:37, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

October 2007 edit

Thank you for making a report about 69.120.116.124 (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you! -- lucasbfr talk 19:19, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I know, it was a mistake. Sorry. I saw all the warning's from earlier months and forgot to check the date. When I realized my mistake I removed my report. -Icewedge 19:25, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
no worries ;) -- lucasbfr talk 19:30, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Siege of Acre edit

Hi Icewedge, I removed it because James Reston is not a good source for the crusades; I suppose he gets some things right, but mostly it is pap written for people with only a casual interest. There are much better sources, and honestly, listing no sources is better than listing Reston. Adam Bishop 03:07, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

The book has been favorably reviewd[2] and it does not seem to be any better than the other source I added, which you left, but oh well. -Icewedge 00:42, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Mistake in your equation edit

Hi Icewedge. I saw the Oxidizable carbon ratio dating page (because of the DYK), and noticed an apparent error in the equation. "Mean temperature" appears in both the numerator and the denominator. I would guess that it should only appear in the denominator. Also, could you explain what units should be used? Celcius or Fahrenheit; inches per month or meters per year; etc. Cheers. --131.215.123.98 17:48, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Oh yes, thank you for noticing that. It should have been mean texture not tempature, my bad. I have just fixed it.
As to the units I am not sure, I have admitedly no experince in this feild at all. I lifted the given equation from here. -Icewedge 20:14, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Looking at the formula and the whole topic from the point of view of sound scientific scepticism this is an old unvalidated theory, published by a single group and then quickly forgotten. Probably rightfully so. If anybody can provide evidence that this is science that was referenced or used beyond the original publisher Douglas S. Frink I would change my attitude. Until then, well I think this page is up for a deletion request or some more critical perspective. Roeschter (talk) 17:14, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Wayqecha Biological Station edit

Hello Icewedge, concerning your deletion message, please check out the revised version of the page for Wayqecha, I have added some new material and a gallery. There are several third party sources on this research station if you search "Wayqecha" on Google, some of these are included in the article as external links. This station is being used for field projects by several academic institutions in Peru, the US and Europe. gecko (talk) 16:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Keep up the valiant battle against the forces of evil, great warrior! --RA talk stalk 10:00, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I just found this, but one way you can explain the link to RW is to use the argument used by the Association of Transwikist Wikipedians. They support the inclusion of (relevant) links to other wikis which specialize in an articles subject. Just a thought. --RA talk stalk 10:15, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, the link is gone now. It only lasted a little over 8 hours :( I personaly feel RW is extreemly relavant to the article but too many people seem to disagree. -Icewedge (talk) 04:37, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
