Youth United is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), having the status of a registered Society, under Societies Registration Act of 1860, [1] Republic of India, one of the three kinds of Indian NGOs.[2] The organization was an oral organization formed in view of welfare of Society through the strongest section of the Society 'The Youth' the Youth Power, until the starting of 2008, when it became a registered NGO. It was started by few students of Panjab University and other colleges of Chandigarh, India. [3].
The stated purpose of the organization is to encourage and foster the development of the youth of India and hence the development of society as a whole through its activities like periodicals, events, community Services and online portals.
Youth United's best-known motto is "The You in Youth", and its secondary motto is "Youth Serves thy Society".

Philosophy

The Organization works on the philosophy of "Whatever you do, you do it with grace, style, warmth and smile". It strives for the welfare of society through its youth power.[4] The declared objective of Youth United is to encourage and foster the development of the youth of India and hence the development of society as a whole through its activities like periodicals, events, Community Services and online portals.

In particular to encourage and foster:

  1. Development of Youth by activities like
    1. Periodicals: By publishing periodicals meant for the members of Youth United and other youth which contemplates articles and issues related to Youth and society development.
    2. Events : By organizing events which promote Youth Development or raises funds for community services.
    3. Community Services: By driving different Community services for development of the Society.
    4. Online Presence: By striving for the development of the Youth and hence Society through its websites www.youthunited.in, www.youth360.in and www.youth360.org by providing the youth all over the world to communicate on the common platform.
  2. High ethical standards in business and profession by all its members.
  3. The application of ideal of service in each members personal, academic, business and community life.
  4. Utilization of each member's potential from members personal, academic, business and community life for
    1. Encouraging Equality in Society and hence discourage the discrimination in society on the basis of caste, creed, color, sex, region and religion.
    2. Uplifting weaker sections of society
    3. Taking up activities whatsoever may lead to the development of any form in any section of society.

Vision

The Youth United's website cites the organization vision statement as: [5]
"We at Youth United community services feel that the rate of development and future of a nation is in the hands of its citizens. So the best way to make the future of a nation secure is to produce a good breed of humans. And the biggest question is that are we Indians taking the right moves to generate the perfect "INDIA OF OUR DREAMS".

We know that the task we have chosen is not easy and is a long term process requiring a lot of financial, human resources. But we are ready to take this challenge. We will try to keep a balance between the activities aimed at direct and indirect impact to get the best results in the least possible time. We need to create awareness among the masses to start bothering about their career, future and the country of course. For every little thing in ones life, the inspiration should first come from within."

Youth United is an organization solely formed for the welfare of Society through its Youth Power. The "Youth Welfare" was and is the priority. The basic aim is to make an indirect impact on the society by improving the quality of human resource being produced in INDIA. To achieve this target, the organization has been divided into four wings: [6][7]

Publication

The publication helps the organization to achieve its objectives by reaching students in different colleges, different streams with different mindsets, vivid talents etc. This publication provides a platform for these young minds to express their views, discuss their problems besides keeping them informed about the latest in career, fashion, technology, sports, entertainment. Besides this, it caters the needs like publicizing various events, delivering messages to its members and raising some funds for the community services.

Youth United Event Organizing

'Youth United Event Organizing' came into existence with the sole aim of raising funds for Community services. The events being planned and organized, target the welfare of society and hence Youth.

Youth United Community Services

'Youth United Community Services', being the most prominent section of Youth United, takes up activities whatsoever may lead to the development of any form in any section of society, making the youth realize their responsibility towards society and country. It has organized events which contemplate weaker sections of society. [8] [9][10][11][12][13]

International Youth Portal

Youth United possess an International Youth Portal with three domain names; www.youthunited.in, www.youth360.in and www.youth360.org The basic mission of this Youth Portal is to bring together the Youth of the world on a common platform and hence to work for the graduated effectuation of Youth United aims and objectives and hence for the development of Society.

The basic membership structure of Youth United comprises of (In order of decreasing controlling Powers and privileges)

Founder Member

They form the founder body of Youth United.

Officers

edit

Officers are elected from general members and comprise of a President and a Vice President. These are the members of the board, a Secretary, a Treasurer, Sergeant at arms and Joint Secretary are also officers and may/may not be members of the board.

Executive Members

edit

These may be elected/nominated (by officers and board of directors). Executive members are a city chapter head, a college/institute chapter head, a chapter joint head, a chapter secretary and a chapter joint secretary; Executive members shall also be a committee head, committee joint head and et al.

General Members

These are the members who subscribes to Youth United's tabloid free of charge.

Honorary Membership

edit

These are nominated persons, any person who has distinguished himself/ herself by his or her activities from his/her personal , academic, business or professional life. These are nominated by board of directors and officers. Executive members can recommend any person for this type of membership. Honorary title gets privilege of contesting for election and right to vote.

Executive General Body

This body comprises joint heads and all the working members under a chapter or a committee. They are assigned different designations by respective heads.

General Body

All the members, getting membership, by default are the general members and constitute the General Body from the date of getting the membership.

Decision Making Body

Governing Body, Executive Body, and Executive General Body are collectively known as Decision Making Body.

Committees

The Organization's working has been divided into different committees or departments:

  • Community Services Committee - It is the duty of this committee to conceive upon an idea to organize events which contemplate and manifest the condition of any community, entity, society or the nation as a whole, keeping in mind the betterment of the same and hence can be termed a community welfare event without logical and ethical subtleties.
  • Publication Committee - This committee stimulates reader interest in the Youth United news, sponsor a tabloid, arrange for brief monthly reviews of the tabloid on regular organization programs, encourage the use of the tabloid in the induction of new members ,provide a copy of the tabloid for non-Youth United speakers, and other special subscriptions for libraries, hospitals, schools and other reading rooms, send news items and photographs to the editor of the tabloid and in other ways make the tabloid of service to the organization members and non-Youth United people.
  • Technical and Creative Committee - The functions of this committee include, but not limited to design of posters banners for events and organization and the designing of the periodical and to look into the technical aspects of the website and tabloids.
  • Event Organizing Committee - The functions of this committee include but not limited to check the feasibility of the proposed event stressing on the timing, venue, funds required, publicity and other factors, to utilize the best possible resources available in the market for the event, to coordinate with the concerned department head for some specific purpose, to see whether the motive of the event is accomplished or not, and to come up with ideas for organizing newer events regularly.
  • Fund Raising Committee - The functions of this committee include but not limited to raise funds and look after the collection of money for organizing events, to venture for various channels/media for publicity and cross publicity, to properly utilize and store the finance, to maintain transparency to all members regarding the usage of funds.
  • Public Relations and Publicity Committee - The functions of this committee include, but not limited to write the press release and hand it over to the concerned media person in person, to get permission for an events venue and other such permissions, to undertake the duty of hospitality of the guests of honour, to look into the matter of the certificates, prizes, trophies etc., to publicize the event being organized by word of mouth, sms, emails, scraps, website, media like the radio, newspapers, posters etc., and to coordinate with the fund raising committee regarding sponsor brands and to do proper branding of our own organization.
  • Human Resources Committee - The functions of this committee include, but not limited to maintain a proper database of the contact details of the members and their departments, to handle all the documents and keep them safe, to look into the matters of managing the workforce, the scrutiny, the recruitment, functions to be given to the new recruits, appraisals, promotions etc., to maintain and store the photographs of the events held so far, to keep a record of all the meetings, venue, time, date, purpose etc held so far, to keep a proper hierarchical classification of the members of Youth United, to look in to the distribution of incentives, if any, and to coordinate with the marketing committee regarding finances.
  • Legal Committee - The functions of this committee include, but not limited to register not only the organization as a non profitable one but also to get the copyrights and other permissions for the mascots, organization logo etc., to check the legal matters involved in organizing any corporate event, the passes, the permissions, the dealings with the sponsors, the event management company etc., to handle the official legal documentation and affidavits, to study the agreement entered in with any company, to analyze all the details before the commencement of any event that there are no violation of the rules and laws and to clear all the legal formalities of the publication like the issue no, date, volume number, deformation case, distribution, printing and costs.

Visionaries/Founder Members

Youth United was started as an oral organization, with Society welfare in view, by few students of Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. Jyotindra Nath, the founder of Youth United, with Rohan Aneja, Kunal Gulati, Saurabh Verma, Ritoban Chakrabarti, Saloni Bajaj, Neelima Walia, Sabiha Basur, Aurobind Vidyarthi and Sukhmani Khanna founded the organization as an oral body in February, 2007. It was an oral body until February, 2008, when it became a registered Society, registered under Indian Societies Registration Act of 1860, one of the three kind of Indian NGOs.[14]

The Officers

Jyotindra Nath is the founder President [15] and the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting and Core Committee of Youth United. Rohan Aneja is the acting Vice President and General Secretary of the organization. Ritoban Chakrabarti is the Webmaster of International Youth Portal. Mission Statement

As per Youth United's official website, the mission statement of Youth United is as follows: [17]
The Youth United, as a non government organization and as a Human Resources Unit, values equality of opportunity, human dignity, and racial/ethnic and cultural diversity. Accordingly, the Organization prohibits and will not engage in discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, disability, or status as a disabled veteran. Further, the Organization will continue to take affirmative steps to support and advance these values consistent with the Organization's mission, aims and objectives. This policy applies to recruitment, functional working, and access to and treatment in Organization programs and activities. This is a commitment made by the Youth United and is in accordance with national, state, and/or local laws and regulations as described in Societies Registration Act of 1860, India.
