Professor Ranjith Premalal De Silva is Vice Chancellor of the Uva Wellassa University. He is an eminent scientist in Sri Lanka and is the Professor of Agricultural Engineering (Geo-informatics) of the University of Peradeniya.

After receiving his education at Nalanda College Colombo, he entered University of Peradeniya and graduated with a BSc in Agriculture. He later obtained M.Sc for Agricultural Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. He has obtained a Postgraduate certificate from Italian University for Foreigners, Perugia, Italy on Water Resources. He then went on to pursue further higher studies and earned a Ph.D from Cranfield University of United Kingdom. He was the Founder President of Geo-Informatics Society of Sri Lanka. He has served as an International Consultant for Transco, British Gas in the UK and several UN agencies including FAO, WFP, and was the Director of Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute. He is the Vice Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University.
