His father was a renowned educator and Magistrate in the Former Bendel State (now Edo and Delta states). His Mother, Lami,[9] was an Irrua Princess and a renowned business woman. She built the first set of shops at the Etete -Adesuwa junction in GRA Benin City, which has turned that area into a commercial nerve centre in Benin City. Anselm’s early education started at Emotan Preparatory School, Benin City from 1963 to 1969. From there he went to the Immaculate Conception College(ICC)[10] from 1970 to 1974.Thereafter, he taught at St. Stephen Primary School, Benin City whilst he was waiting for his admission to the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus to study Law. He graduated with an LLB(Hons) degree in 1980. That same year, he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island[11]. In 1981 he was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister at Law of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Anselm was posted to Rivers State for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme where he served his Primary assignment with the 2 Amphibious Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt as the Brigade Lawyer.

Career and politics edit

At the end of the service year, he returned to Benin City to join the Law Firm of Jim Akhere & Co where he served as an intern whilst in the Law School. During the period, he was concurrently engaged in political activities, greatly inspired by his maternal uncle, Prince Godwill Shaka Momodu. In the same year of 1982, while on a visit to Port Harcourt, he was asked to serve on the Gubernatorial Nomination Committee set up by the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) for the Rivers State chapter of the Party. Due his performance in the committee, he was immediately drafted to coordinate Senator Uba’s campaign for the office of the National Secretary of the National Party of Nigeria. The success of that campaign, led to his appointment as a Special Assistant to the National Secretary of the NPN

In 1984, after the military coup by General Muhammadu Buhari which ousted Alhaji Shehu Shagari from office as President of Nigeria, Anselm relocated to Port Harcourt, Rivers State to join the prominent Law firm of Okocha and Okocha (Barristers and Solicitors) founded by O.C.J. Okocha (SAN)[12]. There he was exposed to a wide range of legal services.

Anselm returned home to Benin City in the later part of 1986 to establish his law firm In Benin, he replicated the model of practice imbibed from Okocha and Okocha and also expanded it to include legal aid services.

Anselm Ojezua was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Edo State. In 2002, he was appointed Secretary of "Glory 2003". This was the special purpose vehicle established by His Excellency Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion to coordinate and execute his re-election campaign as Governor of Edo State. The team was headed by Chief Sam Iredia as Chairman. After His re-election Governor Lucky Igbinedion, appointed Anselm as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor from 2003 - 2005. He was then appointed Commissioner for Youth and Sport in Edo State from 2005 - 2007.

Anselm and a number of notable leaders across the State had their names removed from the PDP register in Edo State during a membership revalidation exercise. This was attributed to internal wrangling within the Party. This led to the formation of Advanced Congress of Democrats(ACD)[13]which later metamorphosed into Action Congress (AC)[14], Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)[15] and finally All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

During the administration of Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, he was appointed Chairman of Post Primary Education Board from 2009 – 2010. He was later appointed Commissioner for Information & Orientation 2010 –2 011, then Commissioner of Lands, Survey and Housing from 2011 – 2012. He also supervised the Ministries of Works and Education concurrently at some point during these periods. In May 2014 he was elected State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State for a term of 4 years.[16]

He was re-elected for a second term in 2018[17] [18] [19] Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). He has been commissioner in more ministries than any other (5) - both full time (3) and supervising (2)-. This spans under 3 different Governors. Hence Anselm is widely regarded as one of the most experienced politicians in the state and a respected leader of the Party.[20] [21] [22] Anselm U.Ojezua Esq. describes himself as a lawyer by profession and a politician by vocation. He is also a businessman with varied interests in Agriculture and Construction (Building and Road).
