Tatiana Israelevna Gelfand is a Russian born, American film and theatrical director. Gelfand is best known for her direction of Exit Routes (written by Gordon Farrell, presented by Red Productions 2012), and co-creating and directing the webseries Why the Hell is She Asking Me That?

Early life edit

Born to Israel Mojseyevich Gelfand, and Tatiana V. Gelfand in Moscow. She immigrated to the United States in 1990, at the age of 8 due to a professorial position offered to Israel Gelfand by Rutgers University.

After graduating form the Rutgers Preparatory School, Somerset, NJ she begin to study neuroscience.

She attended a dual-degree program in Boston, MA, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Bio-psychology from Tufts University, the same year.

After graduation she started to work in the RUCDR cell & DNA lab in Rutgers University, New Brunswick, but the following year her artistic calling launched her into the theater world, working as stage manager in various NYC theaters as the Kaufmann Concert Hall and the American Actors Theater.

Career edit

While working entry level jobs in the NYC theater world, Gelfand continued with her artistic education, both in the United States and overseas. In 2007 she attended Carlo Magaletti's Theatre Directing & Directing Actors course in Munich, Germany, where she was immediately discovered and offered the position of Assistant Director in Magaletti's play, Wunder[Bar], and in 2008, the position of Visual & Video Designer, for "A MUSICAL DREAM OF SUMMER", staged at the Fürstenfeldbruck Center in Munich, Germany.

Upon her return to the US she studied script analysis and theater history at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. In this class she was discovered by Gordon Farrell who invited her to work as a script consultant at Red Productions. Gelfand assistant directed and directed several of their productions, as In the Red Room (by Gordon Farrell), Why the Hell is She Asking Me That? (by Gordon Farrell and Tatiana Gelfand).

In 2011 moved to the west cost to start an original outlet for new authors and actors and artists in general under the name The SOMA Salon which has been great success since 2011

From 2012 Gelfand served as the Literary Committee of the Cutting Ball Theater in San Francisco, CA.

Red Productions in association with Tiger Belly Productions staged Gelfand's debut piece as a playwright, Bottled Up (co-written with Paul Jensen), in 2016.

Current Projects edit

Since late 2013 Gelfand has been the Artistic Director of Tiger Belly Productions, where she is currently expanding their blackbox program along with the creating their new author development outreach.

Early 2018 The SOMA Salon program began its expansion into major US artistic and cultural centers targeting New York, NY, Chicago, IL, Las Vegas, NV, Los Angeles, CA, and Austin TX.

Under Gelfand's direction Tiger Belly Production in co-operation with Red Productions started on a new season of the highly succesful "Why the Hell is She Asking Me That?" web-series. (add watch links)
