Norman Tanner Society of Jesuits (b. 1943) is a Jesuit priest and ecclesiastical historian.

Life edit

Born in England during the World War II, Tanner grew up in Surrey[1]. He attended school first at Woldingham Convent (now Woldingham School), then Avisford Roman Catholic Preparatory School for Boys in Walberton (now the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel), before entering Ampleforth College[1]. In 1961 he joined the Jesuits as a novice before heading to university. He was ordained as a priest in 1976[1] after completing his doctorate and further studies in theology at Rome. His first post was as a curate in the parish of Farm Street[1], in Mayfair, London[2].
