The Cornell Free Speech Alliance (CornellFSA, CFSA) is a faculty/alumni organization created to support free speech at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. It claims over 100 faculty members as subscribers/supportersand 6,000 supporters and followers generally.

Overview edit

The Cornell Free Speech Alliance was founded by real-estate developer Carl Neuss, of the Cornell Class of 1976. The University had asked him to donate a seven-figure amount, but after talking with faculty, he decided that the money would be better spent helping to create an organization devoted to free speech at Cornell.[1]

CFSA is one of five organizations at different universities that founded the Alumni Free Speech Alliance.

Activities edit

The Cornell Free Speech Alliance publishes an annual report on the state of free speech at Cornell, podcasts, a quarterly newsletter.

CFSA is best-known for its outcry against the removal of a statue of Abraham Lincoln from display by the University, led by CFSA member Professor Randy Wayne, an outcry that resulted in the statue being put back on display.[2]
