In Leadership Every great leader has emotional intelligence which is one quality the rises over all others. Leaders who have emotional intelligence have a keen sense of self-awareness. They are mindful of their own value system, of their strengths, emotions, needs, drives and weaknesses. This allows them to focus on self-assessment and control which means having a deep understanding of their own needs and wants. A leader who is aware of why and how they think while interacting with others enhances their overall leadership skills. Leaders who have well rounded self-awareness capabilities are able to recognize and understand when they have reached a certain limit.

Through self-awareness, an individual can motivate others. Effective leaders see how their feelings affect themselves, other people and job performance. Self-examination and reflection is critical for leaders’ development and growth. It can expand their ability to know what to go after and what to pursue based on deeper knowledge of themself. Self-awareness is important when building a team. Knowing their own natural strengths and weaknesses makes them a better recruiter. They see at which point they need other people. To depend on the abilities of others without being threatened by them brings all-round benefits to the team. It enables the leader to select individuals who compliment and understand each other. Different types of people on a team bring a variety of patterns with their own strengths and weaknesses. This is essential for an efficient leader to be confident and lead with more effectiveness.

Emotional Intelligence... Truly successful leaders have a high degree of emotional intelligence which also includes among other attributes self-awareness. Success... In leadership the concept of self-awareness helps to build the foundation for success. Self-awareness enables a person in a leadership position to increase their ability on knowing what to go after and when not to make a move. Based on the increased knowledge of thyself

A leader who lacks self-awareness is more likely to make decisions that bring on turmoil and confusion. The upset and madness created can complicate work and distract the attention of the materials at hand. The poor awareness and emotion diminishes mental abilities and makes people less emotionally intelligent. A leader who is "mad" has difficulty being empathetic towards others and has trouble dealing with conscious emotions. The overall distraction from awareness ends up creating negative emotions ultimately causing unstable leadership. This must be controlled through self-awareness for efficient results.

In short, you can have the best training available, an incredible mind, and plenty of profound ideas, but unless you come equip with self-awareness you wont make a good leader.Eam263 (talk) 01:35, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
