Kevin Menawonu '09

(Olufemi) Kevin Menawonu (born March 13, 1986) is a decorated business professional. He played American football at Bryant University where he attended his undergraduate and graduate education concentrating in business studies. He is a native of Providence, RI and was one of the top recruits in the state coming out of high school (The Providence Country Day School) for basketball and football.

Biography

High School

Menawonu attended high school at The Providence Country Day School in East Providence, Rhode Island. He lettered in basketball, football and baseball. He was named one of the top local athletes in his junior and senior years. He was named to the All Evergreen Team in football, top 5 leading rushers in the conference and received rookie of the year honors in his first appearance as a football player in his junior season. Menawonu rushed for over 1,000 yards each season and averaged 2 touchdowns per game. On the hardwood, Menawonu was an explosive shooting guard with a versatile set of shooting and slashing skills. He finished his high school career with a conference and New England Championship team head coached by Ty Dale. Menawonu served as captain in his senior season and fell just short of scoring 1,000 points in two varsity seasons. He averaged 26.3 points 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in his high school career. His most notable games were Saint Thomas More Prep where Menawonu exploded for 45 points and The Portsmouth Abbey School where he scored 38 points on 7 for 11 shooting from three point distance. Menawonu also played baseball where he appeared as primarily a pinch running and an excellent field player. He was recruited basketball and football at both the division I and II levels.

College

Menawonu was a shut down cornerback at Bryant University from 2005-2010. He did not play his senior year due to injury and returned for his final season as a graduate student. He was one of the members who would contribute to the top 10 defenses in Division I football during the 2009-10 season. He lined up against various notable players including Victor Cruz (NEW YORK GIANTS) and John Skelton (ARIZONA CARDINALS). Menawonu had a solid football career under head coach Marty Fine at a height of 6'1 feet and weight of 190lbs. Menawonu was primarily a man to man press cornerback who was effective matching up against number 1 and 2 receivers. Menawonu received various accolades, including all academic honors and the Bryant Bulldogs Character Award.

Professional

After college, Menawonu would fall short of a professional career in football and began his life outside of the grid iron. He perused a career as a business professional and works actively in the community.
