Nativo, previously known as PostRelease, is a private, for-profit advertising technology platform based in El Segundo, California. Nativo was founded in 2010 by Justin Choi, founder of Cie Games (acquired by Glu Mobile), Cie, and Cie Digital Labs.[1][2]

Nativo is a native advertising provider. Publishers leverage Nativo’s native ad server to deploy and manage native ad placements across all owned properties, and advertisers use Nativo’s native advertising platform to purchase native ad placements through a managed service, self service, or programmatically.[3][4]

History

edit

PostRelease was founded in 2010 by Justin Choi after receiving $1.8 million in seed funding from various angel investors.[5] PostRelease remained an engineering project until 2012, changing its name to Nativo in February of 2013 to reflect the growing popularity of the native advertising format.[6]

Nativo received $3.5 million of Series A funding in April of 2013, followed by a second round of Series A funding in June of 2014 for $5 million.[5][7] Nativo received Series B funding in June of 2015 totaling $20 million led by Advance Vixeid Partners.[8]

Nativo’s headquarters are located in El Segundo and the organization has six office locations, including New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, London, and Toronto. Nativo currently employs between 50-200 people,[9] and their most well known competitors include Sharethrough and Triplelift.[10]

In March of 2019, Nativo acquired SimpleReach, a content management platform, for an undisclosed amount.[11]

Reception

edit

Nativo received recognition within the Los Angeles startup community beginning in 2013, when it received a 2013 Startup of the Year Award at the LA Tech Summit.[12] Digiday recognized the organization in 2015 with both a Signal Award and a Publishing Award,[13] and as of 2019, Nativo is a finalist for additional recognition by both AdExchanger[14] and Digiday.[15]
