Media contribution crosses language boundaries. One pleasant side of this work is seeing one's efforts earn recognition in other projects. For example, 131 of my restorations have been selected as featured pictures at the Turkish language Wikipedia. Their taste is slightly different from English speaking Wikipedians'; they chose a different restoration of Charles Darwin from the one featured at English Wikipedia.
Whenever this happens I look for media that relate to the other Wikipedia's culture and do restorations in thanks. The eighteenth century levha, the machine gun corps at the Gaza line, and the camel corps at Beersheba were restored in appreciation for the Turkish Wikipedians. Other languages have generated synergies: after learning the Irish Wikipedia was highlighting my work I restored Patrick Street, Cork for Saint Patrick's Day.
