Deadly Premonition is an open world survival horror video game developed by Access Games that takes place in the fictional American town of Greenvale.

Main Characters edit

Francis York Morgan edit

The protagonist of the game. An FBI special agent in his mid 30's who goes strictly by his middle name. He comes to the town of Greenvale to solve the murder of a young woman named Anna Graham, due in part to his personal interest in the murders of young women. York is an eccentric, chain-smoking criminal profiler who often delivers asides to Zach, his imaginary friend whose position in the game is congruent with the player's. Zach rarely responds to York, and when he does, his dialogue (which is unheard) is chosen by the player.

York often practices a unique form of divination using his coffee, always introduces himself in the same manner, and discusses aspects of the case with Zach while driving in his car. During these segments, York reveals bits of his past to the player, such as his teenage love of punk rock, his extensive knowledge of movies from the 1980's, and the previous cases that he has worked on.

York is incredibly confident and calm in the face of the supernatural horrors of the Other World, and finds a link from his previous cases to the current one through the red seeds that are found in each murder victim's stomach.

At the game's climax, it is revealed that York's real name is Francis Zach Morgan. As a child, he witnessed an event in which Forrest Kaysen forced his father to kill his mother. Zach's father could not go through with this, letting his wife die a painful death. His father shot himself shortly afterwards. Zach was deeply traumatized by this event and unconsciously created the York personality in order to protect and mend his damaged psyche. From their childhood onwards, York became the dominant persona and would constantly converse with Zach, encouraging him to come out of the Red Room, which is a metaphysical representation of York and Zach's mind. After this revelation, the York personality "dies" and is seen with Emily and the other goddesses in the afterlife, leaving Zach as the dominant personality once again. After the final battle with Kaysen, Zach comes to term with York's passing and leaves Greenvale.
