User:Drcrazy102/sandbox/How to use the DRN form

This page is about how to use the DRN filing form in the correct way to avoid having a general or procedural close of a dispute case at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard (DRN).

First page of the DRN "Request dispute resolution" form.

This first page is to simply "weed out" the editors that have not yet tried resolving the dispute between them and other editors. Some editors click through anyway because "who reads the Terms and Conditions?" This page contains most reasons why a DRN Volunteer will close a dispute with the simple reason of either "general" or "procedural" close; because the filing editor has already broken the "Terms and Conditions of Service" provided by the DRN.
DRN Volunteers will request that the Filing party and involved editors have:

  • Further or recent discussion, if the discussion is not extensive and/or not recent (typically defined by "within a month" in some form of dispute resolution, be it at the the talk page of the article, or a Noticeboard.

Second page of the DRN "Request dispute resolution" form.

This second page, after clicking "Yes, it has" on the first page, contains the filing information sections. When these sections are not filled out or improperly filled out, DRN Volunteers will typically close the case unless they are feeling particularly helpful that day ... most of the time, DRN Volunteers will simply close the case and tell the filing party to "Refile the case, fix/insert [insert section not filed properly], we may then decide to accept."
DRN Volunteers do try to help editors with how to properly file cases if an editor either: a) asks for help on the DRN talk page, or b) improperly files the case.
If the filing editor has not listed all involved parties, the case may either be closed or a Volunteer will manually add the involved parties - depending on the time available to the Volunteer at that moment, or they may leave a note to request involved editors be added by other Volunteers.
If the filing editor lists a current Dispute Resolution Service, such as a Noticeboard or an RfC discussion, and that discussion is still active or open then the Volunteer may close the case if the other discussions continue to be active or if there has been a recent RfC that both discussed the issue and reached a clear consensus. DRN may help with how to implement that consensus if editors are in conflict about only the implementation of the consensus and only if the consensus was not clear on how to implement the resolution.

Third page of the DRN "Request dispute resolution" form.

This third page merely provides a "snapshot" look of the information entered by the filing editor. This is meant to be a crucial step in stopping editors from improperly filing cases, but the coding is unfortunately restricted and allows for "malformed" cases to slip past.
