Step 5 promotion 2019–20

edit

At the end of the 2019–20 season 24 teams will be promoted from Step 5 to Step 4. These will be the teams finishing in the top three positions in the three northern-most divisions, and the champions and four of the runners-up in the eleven other divisions, the runners-up being selected according to points per game.

In addition, up to seven more teams could be promoted, resulting from play-off matches between the remaining runners-up and teams finishing in the bottom position in the seven Step 4 divisions.

Two tables follow. Table A shows the three teams with the highest points per game in each of the northern divisions. Table B shows, for each of the other eleven divisions, the teams with the two highest points per game records. Table B shows the divisions sorted by ppg of the second placed team. If necessary, teams level on ppg are further sorted by 1) goal difference per game, 2) goals scored per game, 3) wins per game, 4) Head to head. Teams currently occupying promotion positions are shaded in green; teams occupying play-off positions are shaded in yellow. (Ppg is used for determining the current best placed top two or three teams in each division, as experience shows that this is usually a far more reliable indication of final position than is the more conventional points-based table.)

Step 5 relegation 2019–20

edit

At the end of the 2019–20 season, twelve teams will be relegated from Step 5 to Step 6. It was announced by the FA that these would be the twelve teams finishing in last place in each division which have the lowest ppg. Following the resignation of Greenwich Borough from the Southern Counties East League at the end of January, it is now understood that Greenwich Borough will be regarded as one of the teams to be relegated, and that the remaining eleven teams will be taken from the other thirteen Step 5 divisions.

Table C, below, shows, for each Step 5 division, the team which currently has the lowest ppg, and divisions are sorted by this ppg. If necessary, teams level on ppg are further sorted by 1) goal difference per game, 2) goals scored per game, 3) wins per game. Teams currently occupying the relegation positions are highlighted in red, and teams currently occupying reprieved positions are highlighted in green.

(There is a similar table covering relegation from Step 3 here)
